Stunning Emmy-winning show in town

AMERICAN guitarist Roni Benise is bringing his Emmy award-winning show “Nights of Fire” to Shanghai.

The visually stunning show features Benise’s Spanish guitar as protagonist and blends rich dance and music elements, including Brazilian samba, Cuban salsa, Spanish flamenco, Argentine tango, even African tribal chants and drums.

The production received an Emmy for its costumes.

Benise and a group of friends began busking on the street and playing neighborhood theaters and flea markets. From these performances, he manages to combine world music with rock to create a sound for fans of both.

He describes his style as “nouveau Spanish flamenco” and recalls that when he heard Spanish guitar for the first time, he knew that was his passion.

“Spanish guitar is much more intimate and romantic then electric guitar,” he says. “I feel I have more expression. Playing Spanish Guitar always takes me away to exotic locations and inspires me.”

The show is a fusion of styles in music, costumes, lighting and set. It combines Spanish guitar with some classic music from Bach, through to The Rolling Stones to The Gipsy Kings.
