Screening best of Japanese cinema

FOLLOWING the successful hosting of the Austrian Film Festival last month, the Shanghai Art Film Federation will present the Japanese Film Exhibition from December 16 to 18.

Seven recent films from Japan will be screened at Grand Cinema and Shanghai Film Art Center. They cover a wide range of styles and genres.

The schedule will include fantasy film “The Top Secret,” the romance “Over the Fence,” suspense film “Night’s Tightrope,” “My Uncle” and epic movie “The Magnificent Nine.”

On December 16, “The Top Secret,” which is based on a classic anime, will open the festival. Keishi Ohtomo, the director of the movie will attend the screening and meet with local movie fans.

Some of the films have also been selected for screening and competition at other international film festivals. With distinctive flavors of Japanese cinema, they explore the country’s real-life problems, offering a glimpse into the society, history and culture of Japan.
