Russian State Ballet stages classics

FOUR classic ballets will be staged by artists from the well-known Russian State Ballet, including “Swan Lake,” “Cinderella,” “The Sleeping Beauty” and “The Nutcracker.”

The classics will have a total of 11 performances in Shanghai to make the elegant ballet art accessible to a younger generation of ballet enthusiasts. Artists will show new interpretations of the famous tales with more difficult techniques and vivid depictions.

Exquisite costumes, lavish scenes and impelling scores are also featured in the shows. Organizers say that “Cinderella,” which will display more than 200 sets of luxury costumes, will be a visual feast.

The troupe has performed in around 80 countries and regions worldwide and is hailed for the strength, intensity and power of their performances.

Its version of “Swan Lake” is famous for the extremely difficult move of the dancer in the role of Odile who will do 32 turns with fouette. Modern elements are also incorporated into the scenes of the classic to gain new appeals.

“The Sleeping Beauty,” a story of Princess Aurora who is cursed by the evil Carabosse will feature spectacular scenes and music.

The two-act ballet “The Nutcracker” will lead audiences into a fantasy world where a girl meets a prince.
