Plenty to keep city’s kids entertained

With summer vacation upon us, the Shanghai Children’s Art Theater, the city’s only professional venue for live children’s entertainment, has plenty of performances scheduled for kids of all ages. Here’s a look at up-coming events.
Percussion Concert “Drumblebee”
French percussion ensemble Quatuor Beat is slated to conjure up an acoustic maelstrom on August 15 and 16.
The ensemble’s four members have performed with such illustrious groups as the Orchestra National de Radio France, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Orchestra de Paris. The quartet is one of the most popular children’s entertainment acts in Europe.
The humorous and stimulating show “Drumblebee” is meant to introduce children to key pieces in classical music.

Target Age: 5 years plus
B Vocal A Cappella
Spanish act B Vocal will bring its famed mix of singing and comic theater to Shanghai on August 21.
The five-member group has performed around the world, captivating audiences regardless of age or nationality with their singing talent.
The group has played in front of families and children since 1998. Over one million children have attended their shows. Previously, the group performed at the Spanish Pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai 2010.

Physical Theater “Metamorf’Ose”
“Metamorf’Ose” is a vocal and kinetic theater production in which two actresses create a dream-like atmosphere and a series of magical transformations. The show will be staged on August 29 and 30.
The hero of this imaginative show is a giant crinoline shell which gives birth to a cast of unreal creatures and odd characters which are sure to delight audience members.
