Play honors heroic revolutionaries

THE Shanghai Peking Opera Company will stage a new original play titled “The Advent of Dawn” to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for the foundation of New China.

The script, written by Li Li, is inspired by true historical events in Chongqing and the novel “Red Crag.”

Set in 1948 and 1949, the play tells of the Communists’ heroic struggles in the Refuse Pit and Bai Mansion prisons. It brings to life the touching scenes and events of that time for today’s younger generations.

The company’s young and promising performers, including Yang Yang, Fu Xiru and Dong Hongsong, will play the main characters.

After its first round of performances on July 5 and 6, the show will be polished and revised based on the feedbacks of audiences.

Date: July 5-6, 7:15pm

Tickets: 50-380 yuan

Tel: 6322-5294

Venue: Yifu Theater

Address: 701 Fuzhou Rd
