Minimalist legend, maximum appeal

THE Music in the Summer Air (MISA) festival began last Saturday, promising two weeks of classical music treats.

Taking its theme as Classical Plus, the 2015 MISA features 22 programs through July 18, with Shanghai Symphony Hall hosting 16 performances, and the remainder held outdoors at the Shanghai Urban Music Lawn in Huangpu District.

Works in diverse styles are promised, highlighted by performances by pioneering minimalist composer Steve Reich, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Brass and organist Cameron Carpenter.
