Film festival’s not short on talent

Some 150 films from more than 60 countries and regions will be screened from today through the end of the month at the “A Long Week of Short Films” program.

The films will be shown in 25 screening programs, and workshops, talks, master classes and parallel events will also be held across Shanghai.

Special guests include Chinese director Wang Shuibo, who was nominated for an Oscar for his 1998 short film “Sunrise Over Tian’anmen Square.”

Wang will give a master class during the festival.

Five animated short films by emerging young animators in China will also be screened.

This year, a new section is dedicated to indigenous films. Ecuadorian director and animator Segundo Fuerez will hold a workshop for children.

The event is a result of a collaboration between Kan-Kan Media and Chinese art and film institutions such as the Minsheng Art Museum and the Shanghai Film Art Academy.

It arises from the need to create a platform for dialogue and exchange between film professionals, students, film communities and audiences, say organizers.

Date: May 22-31

Venue: Minsheng Art Museum

Address: 570 Huaihai Rd W.
