Fengxian to host youth arts festival events

SHANGHAI’S Fengxian District has been named as one of the hosts for the 2016 China International Youth Arts Festival, scheduled for September 17 to 25.

Initiated in 2008, the China International Youth Arts Festival aims to facilitate culture and art exchanges for young people in China.

The festival this year will present 187 overseas and domestic performances and events, including concerts, plays, dances, operas and art exhibitions. About 30 events will take place at university campuses and other venues in Fengxian. Other shows are slated for downtown venues like Shanghai Grand Theater and Shanghai Culture Square. Many low-price tickets will be provided to encourage the attendance of young audiences.

The festival will open in Fengxian on September 17 with a concert by the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, based on the Paris-Sorbonne Symphony Orchestra, with participation from about 20 young musicians from different countries.

The Orchestra will be conducted by Chinese pianist Li Jian and include young Chinese pianist Wu Muye. Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9” and the “Yellow River Piano Concerto” will highlight the concert. The Orchestra will have a second concert at Shanghai Grand Theater downtown on September 18.

Other popular shows include the original musical “Spring Awakening,” ballet “The White-Haired Girl” and traditional Chinese music concerts by adolescent musicians.

2016 Motour Live will also be at Fengxian Beach on September 24-25 as part of the youth arts festival.
