Design Week to offer lots of innovation

THE 2014 Shanghai Design Week, an annual display of future-oriented design and innovation, will be held from October 9-12. The event is also an effort by the city to boost its reputation as the “City of Design.”
At the Shanghai Exhibition Center, the event’s main site, a series of design exhibitions by homegrown artists and professionals from Europe will be presented. They cover a wide range of themes and life aspects such as city infrastructure, household items, 3D printing, and handmade jewelry and accessories.
High-tech items will be a new highlight of the event. They can be used to record fetal movements and monitor people’s skin condition.
Age-old Shanghai watch and costume brands will also have a chance for revival as they undergo fashionable new designs.
Organizers say they have also invited expert designers from all over the world to attend forums about design trends and new approaches to impel the local industry.
In addition to the events at the main site, dozens of displays and interactive events by Shanghai’s creative communities will be offered all over the city through mid-November. Detailed information about the events will be released on Wechat public account “CityofDesign.”
