Classical Strauss world tour heading to Shanghai

THE celebrated Wiener Johann Strauss Walzer Orchester (Vienna Johann Strauss Walzer Orchestra) will present special waltz concerts in Shanghai as part of the orchestra’s 2017 world tour.

Representative works of Strauss and scores from well-known musicals “The Merry Widow” and “Wiener Blut” will be performed.

The repertoire also includes “Love Dream,” “The Blue Danube” and Chinese folk song “A Love Song from Kangding.”

Audience members who are lucky enough will be invited on stage to dance with the troupe.

The Wiener Johann Strauss Walzer Orchester, based in Vienna, was formed by Johann Strauss who was well-known as “The King of Waltz.”

In 1938, the orchestra shocked Europe and the world with their performance at the coronation ceremony of the Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.

The two sons, Johann Strauss Jr and Josef Strauss, were also talented in waltz.

And Johann Strauss Jr even exceeded his father by becoming the new “waltz king.”

The Austrian orchestra became famous after being led by Johann Strauss Jr as they toured the world.

They once performed for Napoleon and his queen, Josphine, and also at the Paris World Expo.

Re-established in 1989, it went on to become Vienna’s strongest and most famous orchestra.

It is also the official orchestra of Austria, and performs 150 concerts a year.
