Chinese music in experimental show

“REDISCOVER Chinese Music,” an experimental program from the China National Traditional Orchestra will be staged at Shanghai Grand Theater until Friday.

With stage direction from Wang Chaoge, the show’s talented young composer Jiang Ying has been entrusted with creating a musical setting and arrangements that take traditional Chinese folk sounds to new and unexpected places.

The show set features classic tunes like “High Mountain Flowing Water,” “A Parting Tune With a Thrice Repeated Refrain,” “Blossoms on a Moonlit River in Spring” and “The Moon Reflected on the Spring.”
