Botanical garden hosts fun holiday events

CHENSHAN Botanical Garden in Songjiang District will host more than 10 concerts, a sunflower exhibition and a rare vegetable and fruit display during the National Day holiday.

A variety of concerts will be staged on the garden’s lawn every day through the holiday. Everything from symphony and piano to folk music and singing performances will be staged by the Shanghai City Symphony Orchestra and youngsters from the Songjiang District Youth & Children Center.

The sunflower exhibition features about 70,000 sunflowers of nearly 50 varieties. Covering about 12,000 square meters, some are from Japan and the United Kingdom. Visitors will also be able to see some rare varieties that are either orange or white and deep red. Some sunflowers are more than 3 meters tall.

A rare vegetable and fruit exhibition will feature giant bottle gourds and snake gourds not commonly seen. They have been arranged in beautiful patterns with flowers and plants.

The botanical garden has also opened a small area featuring animals such as alpacas, peacocks, small-eared pigs and goats. Children can learn more about the symbiotic relationship between animals and plants.

The garden will also host other events like a toy exhibition and a jackstraw making competition during the holiday.

There are shuttle buses from Dongjing Station along Metro Line 9 to the garden.
