Understanding the spirit behind ‘The day of the dead’

THIS week, BISS Puxi’s Year 8 Spanish students have worked on the topic of the big festival in Mexico called “Día de los muertos.” That means “The day of the dead.”

The real difference between the day of the dead and Halloween is that the day of the dead is a more respectful festival about celebrating the dead people.

Halloween is more about hanging out with friends and going out for trick or treat (sweets).

The day of the dead is all about having fun with the whole family including amazing parties.

“Día de los muertos” is celebrated between October 31 and November 2.

They decorate their houses and dress up like dead spirits — skeletons and ghosts. It takes a lot of effort and people spend lots of time baking cakes and bread.

Year 8 have learned about all this and more.

In the end, we painted our faces and everyone looked so cool and scary!

We loved it!!!
