Student’s dystopian tale of darkness

IT went dark, pitch black. Then a sickening jolt into an endless spin. Memories, surroundings and history flashed by. Smells and sounds of sweet pines rustling in the wind, crispy bacon sizzling on the grill, the splash of clear mountain water rushing down a creek. Then it stopped. Landing on the hard, lifeless ground of planet Trever.

“Ouch!” cried Luna Ann Ravenhood. “Where am I?” Luna gazed into the vast planes of dirt and dead plants laying sprawled out onto the ground. Looking around, in the distance on a small hill, Luna spotted residue of old broken houses and shacks looked to be still trying to protect living beings from the harsh weather of Trever.

“How did I even get here? This place stinks,” Luna kicked a pebble and it went flying and landed amongst some other rocks.

“Where’s mom?” Fumbling in her back pocket Luna pulled out her iPhone and tapped her mom’s phone number. After five long buzzes, Luna gave up and started calling her dad. Again, five long buzzes. She tried everyone she knew. No one picked up.

“Seriously?” Luna jammed her iPhone into her back pocket and started heading toward the hill. Maybe someone there could help. As Luna came closer to the small village, she spotted moving figures huddled together muttering nervously.

“We won’t make it much longer,” murmured a frail old woman.

“That’s why I’m going to be one of the few that leave this wasteland!” A man with a dark scruffy beard, said.

“Hey! you don’t know that!” snapped another. “I could very well be one of the chosen ones too!”

“Yeah like they’d pick you,” sniggered another.

Right then, Luna reached them but it went dark. Pitch black.
