Showcase of Senior School excellence

SCIENCE projects are an excellent way of learning and making sure that what was learnt was clearly understood. At Shanghai Singapore International School, science projects are an essential part of understanding scientific concepts, and they also add an element of fun to learning. This year, the Senior School science department at SSIS is hosting its first Science Fair and Excellence Exhibition.

Various grade levels in the Senior School division will be showcasing their excellent work — from multimedia projects in Grade 7 to IBDP science internal investigations and extended essays in Grade 12.

We are especially excited to be introducing a science fair investigation in Grade 8. Grade 8 students are currently working on their research questions and developing their experimental methods as they look to investigate a topic of their choice. Over the next few weeks they will carry out their experiment, analyse their data, make appropriate conclusions and evaluate their investigation.

The opportunity for students to choose the focus of their science investigation and take learning out of the classroom environment should help them make links between science and real world phenomena. In addition, students are making videos journals of their progress to help them reflect and evaluate the scientific process.

We are excited to see our students’ first Science Fair investigations and are expecting some interesting research breakthroughs this year! The Grade 7 students will vote for the best Grade 8 projects and there will be a prize for the winning investigation.
