SUIS Pudong Secondary tops IGCSE charts

SHANGHAI United International School Pudong Secondary achieved top IGCSE results this year. One hundred percent of exams gained A*-C grades and 78 percent A*-A grades. This stellar performance set a new record for the family of SUIS. Moreover, 91 percent of students gained five A*-A or more grades. These results far surpass the UK average (62 percent A*-C, 25 percent A*-A) and many international schools offering IGCSE in China. Six out of 14 subjects taken obtained straight A*-A grades for all students. These high performing subjects included Chinese, Maths, IT, Business Studies, Art and Spanish.

Samantha De Stefano who arrived in Shanghai with her family from her native country, Venezuela, two years ago with a smattering of English gained seven A*-A grades out of eight. Students gained an average eight IGCSEs. These exam results place SUIS Pudong as one of the leading international schools in the world.

Bonnie Cai, head of Secondary at the school remarked, “We are so proud of our students. This success was built upon the core values of our school: team-work, hard-work and effective communication.”

Owen Hu who gained A* in seven subjects and A in one is setting his sights on being admitted to one of the top universities in the USA. He is currently working on a personal project to create an automatic information system on air quality to the school community. Updates may be received by subscribers via mobile phones regularly. He sees this as an excellent way to develop his passion for and understanding of Computing and Science.

The principal of SUIS Pudong Primary and Secondary schools, James Morris commented, “This is an extraordinary achievement. We congratulate not only our students but also our teachers and parents. It is particularly exciting for our younger students in Primary. It is inspirational to them to see how well the older students are faring, as it is an indication of what they might be able to achieve themselves when they progress through our school. We at SUIS Pudong are keen to build on this success for every one of our students in the new academic year.”

SUIS Pudong is a unique school offering a whole-school “East meets West” program based on the National Curriculum for England and the Jiangsu Curriculum for Chinese language and culture for students aged 5 to 18 years. All students must study the three world languages of English, Chinese and Spanish in the first three years of Secondary underlining SUIS Pudong’s commitment to high quality international education. IGCSEs and Advanced Levels are studied in the last four years of Secondary (14 to 18 years) to prepare them for entry to the world’s finest universities and colleges.
