My IB journey at WISS

“ONE day I woke up and thought medicine would be a good career choice for me. When we started to learn heart-related diseases in the biology class, I decided it would be a good idea to do an internship at Family United Hospital and to see if I actually liked the job of a doctor. I shadowed a general surgeon in the hospital and found his work really interesting and rewarding with dedication involved. Then I realized I could pursue the job of a doctor for a long time.

The IB Diploma Program is a great stepping stone towards my future career. IB learners are inquirers, communicators and thinkers. They are knowledgeable, disciplined, open-minded, caring, balanced and reflective. All these attributes are important if I want to work as a doctor.

During the Diploma Program, I had to deal with my reading dyslexia, which makes it harder for me to understand the text. I misspelled words and confused one word for another. This means I had to spend more effort on my homework than other kids. However, I see this as a positive because by overcoming my dyslexia I developed a strong work ethic and a consistent study routine.

If I had a chance to go back in time and choose a program of study, I would choose the DP again. And my advice for any newcomer to the program is that get working on your IAs (Internal Assessments) and EE (Extended Essay) as soon as they are handed to you and spend more time on drafts and on improving your work.
