Harrow has something to offer for the whole family
TEN days ago we launched “Friends of Harrow” with a coffee afternoon. The turn-out took everybody by surprise. Over half of the school parents came to help in getting started.
At Harrow Shanghai we see parent relationships as a vital aspect of a Harrow education. This stretches from the classroom, via our innovative “Leadership in Action” program, to those events and activities which we organize jointly.
At the heart of this is the belief that learning initiated at school can be maintained, and hopefully actively encouraged, at home. So much of education is about inspiring effective study habits and ethics. This is just one area where parents can give the school a helping, if not decisive, hand. Good habits at home, notably in the area of self-discipline, will pay off at school. In short, we’re in this together!
This is never more true than at a new school. Many of our parents are attracted by the relatively small numbers, and the friendship and sense of camaraderie that follows. Not just for their children but also themselves. In this fashion, students and parents help to define the school, making it as much “their” as well as “our” school.
Harrow parents are looking for a new and more varied educational opportunity for their children. The majority relate this to academic challenges, such as university entrance, A-levels, developing Mandarin expertise and being stretched at any age group. These are many of the principal characteristics of a Harrow education.
A growing number also want to widen the horizons of their children by giving them opportunities in sport, music, drama and other activities. This is where the Leadership in Action and the after-school Harrow Plus programs come in.
