Check out these great book series

Are you a middle school student bored at home not knowing how to spend your day? Well, not anymore. The best solution is reading. Reading can introduce you to stories you may have never considered.

Here are three great dystopian series for middle school students:

•“Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins is an adventurous, dramatic series (Books: “Hunger Games”, “Catching Fire,” “Mockingjay”) set in future North America (Panem) with the rich (living in the Capitol) and the poor (living in the 12 districts). Every year Panem selects 24 children from the 12 districts to fight in a battle, known as the Hunger Games, to the death. In the 74th Hunger Games, the two main characters, Katniss and Peeta, are chosen to participate in this battle to the death, but there can only be one winner. Who will survive? Who will face death?

•“Maze Runner” by James Dashner is a sci-fi/mystery series (“Maze Runner,” “The Scorch Trials” and “The Death Cure”) about 50 kids trapped in the middle of a maze. Everyday, a few of the boys try to find a way out of the maze, but after a boy named Thomas arrives, everything changes. Usually a boy arrives every month, but the first girl comes the day after Thomas with a note saying, “She is the last one EVER.” A few days later, the walls that protect the boys don’t close; Grievers (spiderlike-manmade creatures) take boys one by one. This could end in all their deaths or a way out of the maze.

•“Divergent” by Veronica Roth is a sci-fi/mystery series (“Divergent,” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant”) set in a post-apocalyptic future Chicago. This society is divided into five factions: Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). When every child turns 16, he/she must take a placement test to see which faction their personality best fits. The main character, Tris, gets the result of Abnegation, Dauntless, and Erudite. By getting the result of these three factions she is classified as a Divergent, which means she fits into multiple factions. The government will do anything to get rid of Tris, even if it means killing her. Where does she go? What does she do? Will she survive?

These three series are fast-paced, action-filled, dramatic, and adventurous with all kinds of characters and twists and turns. Spend your summer reading about multiple stories and books; use these three series to get started. Don’t think of reading as reading; instead think of it as delving into other people’s stories and expanding your imagination. Hope you enjoy these books.
