Cartoon figures given a new life

Clay animation, or claymation, is one of the many forms of stop motion animation. Each animated piece, either character or background, is “deformable” — made of a malleable substance, usually plasticine clay.

Timothy Burton who was born on August 25, 1958 is an American film director, producer, artist, writer, and animator. He is known for his dark, Gothic, macabre, and quirky horror and fantasy films such as the romantic dark fantasy “Edward Scissorhands” (1990), the superhero films “Batman” (1989), the fantasy film “Alice in Wonderland” (2010).

The students of Hongqiao campus learned carefully from the teachers and created the clay works by hand. The works keep the characteristics of the clay which are natural, colorful and dreamlike. They also borrowed from the thinking of director Burton who always breaks through the routines. The cartoon figures were given a new life and all the visitors enjoyed a lot.
