Beauty found through togetherness

One day, a rainbow was hanging in the sky. It heard people saying, “Wow! Rainbow!”

“Which color is the best?” a little girl asked her mother.

“I like blue because it is my lucky color. Which do you like?” the mum replied with a smile.

“I have no idea,” the little girl shrugged her shoulders as she answered her mother.

The rainbow heard the conversation and began to discuss what the best color was.

Red: “I am the most beautiful color because I am the color of the sun and fire. I represent passion and love which makes you happy and want to work harder.”

Orange: “But fire can destroy everything and cause bad consequences. However, I am much gentler than you. Instead of hurting people, I give them warmth and strength they need. So I shall be the most beautiful color.”

Yellow: “Absolutely not! We are similar but I am the color of sunshine! I represent happiness. The smiley faces are always printed in yellow.”

Green: “Yes, you are right. No wonder when most people smell yellow durian they run away and keep saying ‘ewe.’”

(All the colors except yellow burst into laughter.)

Green: “Grass and trees can bring fresh air. If the air quality isn’t good, people get sick. Moreover, I am the sign of life and hope. One cannot live without either of these.”

Indigo: “Fair enough, but I’m still better. I am the symbol of inner peace which successful people try hard to find. Once you gain fame, money and knowledge, inner peace makes you stronger and people will respect you even more. What do you think, blue?”

Blue: “I’m with you. Although you are important, I’m the color of ocean and sky. Ocean and sky cover most of the earth. Moreover, I represent calm. When danger appears, people need to be calm to survive.”

Purple: “You all have your own advantages. However, people like me better because I’m the color of romance and royalty.”

As they kept fighting, purple couldn’t take it anymore. Purple said, “Why don’t we just live our own lives from now on? It will be much better.”

“That’s a neat idea!” the colors agreed.

Then the colors found various places to live. Some hid behind different mountains while some flew into caves.

Everything was fine in the beginning and they all enjoyed the peaceful and quiet life on their own, until a terrible rainstorm occurred, which destroyed the balance completely. Seven colors were all scared because they had never gone through this alone before. They didn’t feel comfortable or confident. Red, orange, yellow and purple cried loudly while indigo, blue and green talked to themselves to calm down.

After the rainstorm, the colors realized that they couldn’t live without each other. They are friends, team members and a family. Each has its own unique value. They tried to find each other behind the clouds, trees and housed, but they couldn’t find anyone. Finally, they went back to the place where they had fought. Surprisingly, everyone was there!

They apologized, cried and finally smiled. They forgave each other because they loved their family. There are seven letters in the word “rainbow.” That means it needs all of them to achieve the prettiest rainbow.
