Going up in smoke
FOR thousands of years, Chinese incense or fragrance (xiang 香) has been used for health and traditional medicine, religious ceremonies, ancestor veneration, spiritual cultivation, and pleasure. In recent years, there’s been a revival of interest in incense of all kinds as well as aromatherapy, an alternative form of medicine using herbs and essential oils. This revival includes a reawakened interest in traditional herbal incense culture. Wang Yong has steeped himself in ancient Chinese culture and smokes out the truth about incense.
