Italian duo to play Beethoven, others

A piano and violin duo from Italy — Francesca Dego and Francesca Leonardi — have been performing together over the last decade. Both recording artists for Deutsche Grammophon, their repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary compositions.

The duo will perform Beethoven’s “Violin Sonata No. 10 in G major,” Brahms’ “Scherzo in C Minor,” Gabriel Fauré’s “Violin Sonata,” Paganini’s “La Campanella for Violin and Piano,” as well as the Chinese piece “Jasmine.”

The 25-year-old Dego is one of the best young artists in Italy, making her debut as a solo violinist at the age of 7.

She was the first Italian female violinist since 1961 to reach the final of the renowned Paganini Competition in Genoa and won the Enrico Costa Prize for being the youngest finalist.

Her critically acclaimed debut album with Deutsche Grammophon featuring 24 Paganini Caprices was released in October 2012.

Dego has performed in renowned concert halls including Wigmore Hall and Royal Albert Hall and toured internationally.

She plays a precious Francesco Ruggeri violin and the ex-Ricci Guarneri del Gesù.

The 30-year-old Leonardi made her debut as a soloist with the Rosetum Orchestra with Mozart’s “Concerto No. 13” at age 16.

She also teaches piano at Trinity School and Trinity Academy in London.

In March, the duo released the first volume of their   recording of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas.
