THE sanfu period, the hottest days of summer in China, usually lasts 40 days. Many Chinese living in the old neighborhoods don’t have air-conditioners. Shanghai Daily photographer Jiang Xiaowei took some street shots of summer life in the Old Town area near Yuyuan Garden.
