A dream team of virtuoso brass players

THE Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass from the United States, a veritable “dream team” of virtuoso brass players, promises to bring a joyous musical experience for local audience at Shanghai’s Daning Theater at the end of July.

With its origin from the streets of New Orleans, the group has created a format that breaks the usual barriers between genres and strives to build a connection between audience and performers.

Rodney Marsalis is the principal trumpeter for the upcoming China tour. The programs will include New Orleans traditional “Closer Walk,” Giuseppe Verdi’s classic “Aida” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

Bearing in mind that music is a gift to be enjoyed by everyone, Marsalis and the associate artists are good at reaching out to the youth and inspiring them to pursue their dreams.

Marsalis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he began his musical studies at the age of six. When he was 11, he began taking classical trumpet lessons. Referred to as a “trumpet prodigy,” Marsalis made his solo debut at the age of 15 with the New Orleans Symphony.

After winning various solo competitions, he received national attention at the age of 19 after performing with the Boston Pops Orchestra. He has also performed with the San Diego Symphony, the Tenerife Symphony, the Orquestra Sinfonica de Barcelona I Nacional de Catalunya, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and many other troupes throughout the US and Europe.
