A Father’s Day you won’t soon forget

FATHER’S Day is coming up fast — it’s time to whip out your “World’s Best Father” tie and fill up your “Number One Dad” mug. If you’re looking for a fun activity or perfect culinary treat to celebrate dear old dad, the Shanghai Daily has you covered.

Dining

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach; and your dad is no exception. Lucky for you, this Father’s Day is jam-packed with all sorts of delicious delicacies for you and your pops to chow down on. There are a variety of brunch options on the actual day, including the Brownstone’s block party brunch. If your dad is a classic meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, try Cages, which features a steak dinner special for Father’s Day. If you really want to go all out, Ambrosia Teppanyaki is offering a nine-course dinner, complete with foie gras, sashimi, and steak for 588 yuan (US$89), from now until the 19th. Any one of these choices is certain to leave your dad with a full belly and a satisfied smile.

Shopping

If your pop’s passions extend beyond just eating, dress him up and get a good bargain. Florentia Village, an Italian luxury designer outlet, offers an extensive selection of male clothing brands, which include luxury, lifestyle, travel, family, and athletic apparel. All categories are up to 80 percent off during the Father’s Day celebration. Fashion experts are on hand to give advice and show kids how to dress their beloved fathers. As a father of two, Maurizio Lupi, managing director of Florentia Village, expects a day of excitement and is looking forward to spending time with his family. “We’ve created a nice shopping environment with excellent service,” he says. Moreover, the authentic Italian, Chinese and Western gourmet foods crafted by over 10 outdoor cafes and restaurants boast a variety of options.

Cooking class at Morton’s

There’s also a variety of father-child bonding activities in the town for the holiday. The famed Morton’s is offering a cooking class at both of its Shanghai locations, where teams of dads and their kids can learn to make classic Morton’s fare with instruction from the restaurant’s staff. This year, the dishes include the Chopped House salad and the Legendary hot chocolate cake, after which participants can sit down to enjoy the fruits of their labor, accompanied by Morton’s mini beef burgers. The event is limited to 20 spots, at 218 yuan a piece — get yours while they still last!

Father’s Day fun at Octave

This Father’s Day, Octave is putting on a Super Dad Day, with fun for parents and kids alike. There will be kid-friendly activities like face painting, costume making, and fashion shows. Afterwards, guests can retire to the dining room, where Octave is offering Sunday brunch prepared by executive chef Alexander Bitterling. The activity starts at 10:30am and ends at 12:30pm, with brunch ending at 3pm. Think of this as the gift that keeps on giving — hopefully the munchkins will tire themselves out, so dads can enjoy some quiet time later while their kids nap!
