Solar panels on rooftops expanding
TIAN Xiaobao, a resident on Tongbo Road in downtown Songjiang, has become the first individual to successfully apply for solar power expansion on his villa roof.
Last August, he installed a 4.5-kilowatt hour solar photovoltaic power system. The 15 solar panels and related equipment cost him 50,000 yuan (US$8,197). He has now added 1.8 kilowatt hours of power capacity to the system.
From September to November, Tian said he was saving about 150 yuan on his monthly electricity bill.
“After the expansion, the system will generate up to an additional 100 kilowatt hours of power every month,” Tian said.
In Shanghai, electricity costs around 0.6 yuan per kilowatt hour. Altogether, 60 households in the Songjiang district have installed solar power systems on their roofs.
Songjiang State Grid has opened one-stop services for individuals interested in adopting solar power.
