Rice harvest battles the rain
SONGJIANG is going to harvest about 92,000 tons of rice this autumn, with work expected to finish in early December.
“Heavy rains have caused us a lot of trouble, but whenever the rain stops, we hurry out and continue the harvest,” said Feng Juhui, deputy director of Jingling Village in Shihudang Town.
And so far, one quarter of the village’s rice crop has been harvested, Feng added.
In Yexie Town, family farm owners are also busy at work.
“I have to hurry because the weather forecast says there’ll be rains all this month,” said farmer Zhang Renzhang.
After harvest, the rice is dried in warehouses.
Last year, Zhang said he harvested about 600 kilograms and earned 100,000 yuan (US$14,740).
“I hope this year I will do even better,” he said.
