Hikers set to begin a contest

A hiking competition covering eight kilometers from Shanghai Yuehu Sculpture Park to Sheshan Hill National Resort will be held this Saturday.

Those wishing to participate can get their numbers at the starting point in the sculpture park before 10am. They are required to run through the park and national resort, completing four different challenges. It is estimated the whole trek will take about five hours.

The event will end with an awards ceremony and a live music party.

Participants can park their cars at the No. 2 parking lot at Sheshan Hill National Resort or they can choose a greener transport by taking the Metro.

There will be free shuttle buses at the Sheshan Hill Station of Metro Line 9.

There are three medical stations, manned by 200 volunteers, along the course.

Entry fees at both parks are waived on the day for contestants. However, there is an application fee at 158 yuan (US$23.60) for individuals and 128 yuan for each person in a team of five members or more.

The fee includes a running kit, a T-shirt and a bag. The money will be donated to a charity organization that helps dropouts return to school.
