Film park, German studio forge ties
SHANGHAI Film Park in Chedun Town has received a partnership investment of 2 billion yuan (US$298 million) from Germany’s Studio Babelsberg, a leading European film and TV producer.
The money will be used to upgrading the film park, transfer expertise and train staff. There will also be collaboration on co-productions.
The local film park, with sets designs based on 1930s Shanghai, will add new features, including a major conference center. In addition to serving as a tourist attraction, the base wants to attract more business travelers.
“The Shanghai Film Group and Studio Babelsberg have great traditions,” said Charlie Woebcken, chief executive of Studio Babelsberg. “We want to work together to establish a joint production services unit in Shanghai and create major international film projects in China.”
Shanghai Film Group President Ren Zhonglun said his group has a lot to learn from the production expertise and management style of its German partner.
