Changzheng Town tenants getting a lift

RESIDENTS in Changzheng Town, Putuo District, recently received the good news that their old buildings were going to be the recipients of some new elevators. And with joint efforts from all residents in the four buildings at Nujiangnanyuan residential area, the group purchase and producers of the elevators ensured the total expense was 5 percent less than the original price.

Learning the successful case of installations at a neighboring residence, residents at No. 31-34 buildings decided to install the elevators.

A contact group was formed to hold weekly meetings about the procedures, and the project received 100 percent approval from all of the residents in the four buildings. They chose to buy Mitsubishi elevators, each of which has a capacity of eight persons or 630 kilograms. Local government departments also simplified the approval procedures for the project, which cut the time by half to only four months.

Wang Shuzhen, a resident of the No. 32 building, said the work couldn’t have begun so fast without the support of all the residents.

Another resident, Zhu, living on the first floor of No. 32 building, doesn’t use the elevators, but said it was “convenient for the other residents.”

The Jiang family living on the first floor of another building declined to take subsidies from residents living on the higher floors. He told them to spend the money on corridor decoration.

Installation projects in Changzheng Town now has now increased to a total of nine elevators.

In the near future, it will become more convenient and economical for old buildings of the area to be equipped with elevators, the town authorities said.
