Science, tech drive gets impetus
The annual Minhang Science Festival has begun, with officials from the district’s science department, the government of Wujing government and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Science Park participating in the opening ceremony.
It’s a tribute to efforts by the district to promote science and technology.
A subsidy program to give graduate students financial support has provided 32 million yuan (US$5 million) to more than 100 applicants.
The science department has signed agreements with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and East China Normal University to share science and technology research equipment and facilities.
Minhang District has been gathering strength in its campaign for development of science and technology. Between 2016 and 2020, the district won over 30 national awards and 300 Shanghai awards for that development.
More than 70 people from Minhang won honors at the Shanghai Science and Technology Awards ceremonies in May, accounting for a quarter of winners.
This year, Ma Lizhuang and Shen Hongbin, both from Minhang, won special awards.
Ma, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, works in computer graphics and computer vision technology. He joined the development of the health code used during the coronavirus pandemic.
Shen, also from Jiao Tong, conducts research in bioinformatics.
