Noise polluters fined leaving residents to sleep easy

Minhang residents living along Huangpu River can finally sleep soundly without any disturbing noise.

Unknown roars and gas were frequently reported in the past that kept residents awake at nights.

Earlier this year, the local environmental authority pin-pointed three cement batching plants and concrete mixing stations, located at the west side of Putang Road, near housing estates.

All of them were fined 200,000 yuan (US$30,543) for excessive noise and 100,000 yuan for expanding the scale of production without any proper licenses.

Shanghai Success Gas Industry Company was also fined for excessive noise.

By the end of August, all offending companies have built noise walls around factories.

Three companies have re-established environmental impact assessment report.

Minhang Environmental Protection Department reassessed the noise level, and the results showed that all the companies have met noise regulation after rectification.

Minhang Environmental Protection Bureau plans to hold meetings with Pujing Community and organize volunteers to monitor and track noise levels in the area.
