HEALTH data

A NEW data center at the Minhang District Health and Family Planning Commission, installed with the cooperation of Chuangye Software Co, will manage patient records and share them with other hospitals in the district.

Dance studio

The Yang Xinhua Dancing Studio, which recently started at the Jiangchuan Cultural Center, named Yang Xinhua as its director. He has been involved with the Shanghai Youth Dance Group and is vice dean of the College of Dance at the Shanghai Theater Academy. The new studio will focus on elementary dancing courses for local residents.

Soldiering on

An employment fair aimed at helping decommissioned soldiers was held recently in Minhang. Up to the end of last month, 227 soldiers have returned to the district this year. About half of them, many carrying the honor of “outstanding soldiers,” found jobs and the rest chose to attend college before entering employment.

Prize inventions

Seven inventions by Minhang innovators won gold prizes at a recent international invention expo in Kunshan, a city in Jiangsu Province. The inventions spanned medical devices, manufacturing tools and electronic gear. The expo attracted more than 1,000 participants from China and abroad.

Clean plates

A FOOD-SAVING campaign was launched in Minhang recently. Residents were asked to upload picture of their empty plates on social network platforms with the hashtag “my empty plate campaign.” The aim of the project is to end food wastage. The official Weibo account of the district will select the most impressive empty plate photos and award prizes.

Culture center

A NEW cultural center on the Minhang campus of East China Normal University has opened to the public. Called the Hanfen Building, the center contains a library, a cafe and bakery, and a lecture hall. The center will be a venue for academic exchanges and cultural activities.

Playing around

A CHILDREN’S playground will open at the Hub next year, featuring popular global brand equipment, including Molly Fantasy, E Cube Club and Green & Safe. A new luxury hotel, the Cordis, will open at the Hub next spring.

Ending dead ends

Three dead-end roads in Minhang will be opened up and linked to other roads. Huaji, Jinghong and Jingdong roads are all near the Xuhui District. After completion of the project, traffic congestion in the area is expected to be eased. Relocation of residents in affected areas will begin soon, according to local urban planning authorities.

Dialect stories

A STORYTELLING contest themed around use of the local dialect was held in Qibao Town. Participants told stories they wrote themselves or read from classic Chinese texts in the Shanghai dialect. Many participants, though natives of the city, said it was harder than they thought to tell a whole story without reverting to any Mandarin.

Bear promoter

Kumamon, the bear-shaped mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, has come to the Hub in the Hongqiao Area to promote tourism and business opportunities in the prefecture. An exhibition entitled “Kumamon’s travels in China: a Promotion of Kumamoto” displays all the attractions of the prefecture, including Kumamoto Castle, the Amakusa seaside and hot springs. The exhibition will last through mid-February.
