With improvements in the environment, more breeds of wild birds are showing up in Minhang.

According to the District Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau, at least seven birds new to the district have been spotted. They include black-capped kingfishers, green sandpipers and brown hawk owls.

Officials said some of migratory birds showed up only during springtime, but nowadays many of the breeds are staying permanently.

The bureau has identified the six best sites for bird-watching. They are the Minhang Sports Park, Minhang Park, the Pujiang and Maqiao waterfront sections of the Huangpu River, the Binjiang Wetland Park and Pujiang Forest Park.
