Food scandal

The Minhang District Food and Drug Administration carried out an inspection of local fast-food chains after stale meat from a subsidiary of US-based OSI Group found its way into some Chinese fast-food outlets, touching off a national scandal recently. The subsidiary was accused of repackaging meat beyond its use-by date, and falsifying expiry dates to sell it on. Quality inspectors were lied to about the freshness of the meat. The Minhang agency said it confiscated more than 5,100 kilograms of raw steaks, chicken legs and minced pork cutlets from 19 McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, Dicos and Pizza Hut it inspected.
