Food, fun and folk culture. What more could you want at a festival!
Minhang District launched a series of events earlier this month to participate in the monthlong Shanghai Tourism Festival.
Activities include local features and attractions of international appeal. The district is also trying to lift its profile as a tourism brand in the Yangtze River Delta.
Among the 50 scheduled activities, light shows staged every weekend at Jinjiang Amusement Park highlight themes such as fairytales, jungles and oceans, coupled with interactive stories.
Events at The Hub in Hongqiao include the annual music festival “World Music Asia,” an indoor fair and a music party.
Folk cultural traditions will be celebrated in Maqiao and Qibao towns.
The Jiangnan Foodie Festival is highlighting specialties from neighboring provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui. It concludes late this month.
After four months of public voting, Minhang has announced its top 10 tourist spots, chosen from a field of more than 50 candidates.
Crystal Palace Arts Bookstore came out on top. Its transparent architecture and iconic staircases have become popular photo opportunities for the public.
Momole Pet Paradise has more than 100 animals from land and sea for visitors to view. Apart from common ones like parrots, pigs and snakes, there are also a kangaroo, raccoons and sharks. The site exhibits the animals in replicas of their native habitats.
Carton King Theme Park, with all its settings built of cardboard, is a popular destination. The park has a cardboard train and tunnel, and a cardboard replica of the Fairmont Peace Hotel on the Bund.
Art lovers may fancy the Powerlong Museum or the Todtime Corridor, a new structure on the southern square of Xinzhuang Metro Station. The corridor features exhibitions using multimedia and digital technology.
For those who just want to relax somewhere near nature, Pujiang Country Park is the place to head. Its Miracle Garden, a floral wonder, is only one of many flower attractions at the park.
The district’s official portal app provides information on tourist routes to suit every taste, whether that be country life, local culture, modern technology or history.
For Minhang residents who may happen to be in the southwestern province of Yunnan, tourist attractions in the cities of Baoshan and Tengchong are offering free admission. They include a volcano landscape, thermal waters and ancient towns.
