Expo exemplifies post-COVID-19 era
Safeguarding the trade fair
“There are three goals we need to achieve when guaranteeing the safety of this event,” Zhang Yi, head of the office responsible for expo operations, said. “We need to ensure there are no conditions that would lead to another outbreak; we need to identify and respond quickly to any detected cases; and we need to closely monitor air-conditioning equipment installed in the expo halls to provide the best air circulation.”
Zhang said the pressure to ensure health and safety is a bit like efforts earlier this year when the virus first struck, except that authorities had a much better grasp of the disease now.
Almost all members of Minhang District’s disease prevention and control center have been dispatched to work at the event.
“We have enough emergency materials to cover a month,” Zhang said, “and we had all preparations in place half a month before expo opened.”
In the district, Huashan Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Fudan University and Central Hospital of Minhang were designates at principal centers of medical services during the expo.
Medics were particularly concerned about the onset of the seasonal flu this month converging with the coronavirus.
