Minhang is building an ecological corridor along the Suzhou Creek to improve flood control and environment for the residents. The construction started is expected to take a year and be completed before the end of 2018.

About 20 percent of the dykes of Suzhou Creek meet flood control standards, according to Sheng Xiaoqing, director of Minhang Flood Control Management and Service Center. And 50 percent of them were built before 2000. Reinforce work is required to improve flood control.

The corridor area starts from Xupu to Zhaojia, stretching through seven villages in Minhang, with a length of 10.5 kilometers and a width of 300 meters. The corridor will be divided into three parts: a recreation area, green space and fun area.

Suzhou Creek will be another place for residents to stroll in Minhang. The construction will add three playgrounds and squares along the river, with a fitness trail and a cycle lane. Along the middle course of Suzhou Creek, the district will build a city theater, a badminton court, art center and a natatorium.
