Better medical services for cancer victims, elderly
MINHANG people will enjoy greater access to medical services in the next two years.
A cancer treatment center was founded recently, and a medical facility for the elderly will go into operation in 2019, according to district public health authorities.
The Minhang branch of the Fudan University Cancer Center will share medical resources with the general hospital in downtown, forming a high-quality medical team on cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment.
The cancer screening network will include other hospitals and community health centers.
The branch will train doctors and nurses from other institutions on chemotherapy and radiotherapy nursing, palliative care and screening of high-risk groups.
Officials cited a rising rate of cancer deaths in recent years. The Fudan Cancer Center is always crowded with patients from around China.
The Minhang branch is expected to relieve some of that burden and offer patients better services.
Meanwhile, construction will begin on the new Minhang Seniors Caring Hospital this year in the eastern part of the district. It will begin accepting patients in 2019.
Supported by Yueyang Hospital, it will embrace traditional Chinese medicine as part of its services, including herbal remedies, massages and acupuncture.
The hospital will also provide resources to Wujing Hospital, which is also developing its own traditional Chinese medicine department.
