You need to be fast for these courses
JIADING Cultural Center has launched a series of free courses, including photography, music, painting and dancing.
There are different levels available ranging from basic to advanced.
Places for the most popular courses — piano basics for children, Jiading bamboo carving and creative cartoons — were fully booked in minutes.
“Many courses were fully booked like a flash sale because this year’s courses are more diversified and users are more familiar with ‘Cultural Jiading,’ ” said Zhang Zhiqi, director of training department of the center.
“Cultural Jiading” is an online platform to inform residents of upcoming cultural and art events in local venues such as libraries and museums.
People can book places for activities or review past events on the platform, which has over 20,000 registered users.
“We will provide more free courses or programs during the summer vacation and in autumn for residents,” said Zhang.
Set up by the district’s department for culture and radio with Shanghai Poly Grand Theater, the first Public Welfare Cultural Week offered locals tickets to high-quality performances last year that cost just 30 to 80 yuan each.
Last month, the event provided over 6,000 non-profit tickets and 1,500 free tickets on “Cultural Jiading” for locals for its second year.
A series of library-themed courses designed for children in selected grades at local kindergartens and schools are also available.
