Working together keeps disruption at minimum
A WOMAN surnamed Zhao, living at Yingyuan No. 12 Lane, was recently surprised to see China Mobile and China Unicom, despite being competitors, laying pipes in Tacheng Road near Zhongguang Middle School at the same time.
She thought it strange as it was usually common to see workers digging up roads time and time again to lay pipes.
That’s because the Jiading District Scientific Commission now puts applications for roadwork online and similar projects can be added to save roads being ripped up several times when just once would do.
Companies have an incentive to take part, because if they choose not to, they are forbidden to lay pipes on the same road within a three-year period.
On Tacheng Road, China Mobile’s Jiading Branch is laying four lines measuring 3.3 kilometers.
They reckon that because two companies are sharing the costs of the roadworks, they can save about 400,000 yuan (US$65,574).
In the first six months this year, a total of 242 new communication pipelines were built in Jiading, 56 of them were jointly constructed, 23.1 percent of the total.
China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom signed a framework agreement on joint pipeline construction in 2009.
