Volunteers take their skills to Yunnan

HEARING from members of the 19th volunteers group after their return from southwest China’s Yunnan Province, Zhou Xiaocheng, from the Jiading Agricultural Technology Promotion Service Center, was surprised that these volunteers could feel such passion for their time there.

And then, Zhou signed up as a volunteer and left for Yunnan as a member of the 20th volunteers group.

The group of 24 young members are offering services including health care, education, agricultural technology and social work in various sites in Yunnan.

Apart from Zhou, there are two other members from Jiading — Shao Weirong, an orthopedist from Jiading Central Hospital, and Jiang Lijie, secretary of the youth league committee at Jiading Industrial Park in Loutang Village.

Shao is serving at a hospital in Yunnan’s Fugong County. “There is a wide gap between medical conditions of Fugong and Jiading. Many patients suffer from rare diseases here,” said Shao. Shao’s work includes clinical diagnosis and optimization of its medical diagnostic system.

“I do my best to help locals and improve my skills through practice,” said Shao.

Jiang, a former member of the People’s Liberation Army of China, is providing administrative services at an environmental protection bureau in Deqin County.

“The volunteering work here in Yunnan is a great challenge for me,” Jiang said.

Zhou went to Qiubei County. “The locals welcome us warmly and offer us much help in daily life,” she said.

She is working with the local Agricultural and Science Bureau in areas such as vegetable planting techniques and vegetable varieties introduction.
