Still time to catch bamboo culture
SHANGHAI Bamboo Culture Festival will be open to the public until the end of the month at Guyi Garden in Jiading.
It features a bamboo root sculpture display, bamboo carving exhibition, painting and calligraphy displays.
Bonsai containing bamboo materials, bushes and flowers will showcase stories of Chinese idioms, the spirit of traditional Chinese poetry, Chinese culture and anti-corruption culture.
The garden’s Shiyun Pavilion will showcase about 20 bamboo root sculptures by the nation’s fine-art artist Chen Chunrong. Meihua Hall will display bamboo carving works such as bamboo paperweights, bamboo screens and bamboo hangings.
Yuanyang Hall, Huashen Palace and Yiye Hall will present a calligraphy exhibition of works by late calligrapher Pu Yong (1909-1985), an exhibition of calligraphy and ink-wash painting works by famous calligraphers and painters and a flower bouquet art exhibition respectively.
During the week-long National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, the garden organized a historical reenactment when residents and tourists wearing traditional Chinese clothing were able to tour the garden for free.
