Polluting vehicles to disappear

All yellow-label vehicles in Jiading will be eliminated by the end of this year, according to the latest environmental protection plan of the district.

Yellow-label vehicles refer to those which only meet the National Standard Level 1 in automobile emissions. According to the state environmental protection authorities, yellow-label vehicles account for 13.4 percent of vehicles, but discharge 58.2 percent of nitrous oxides, 81.9 percent of particulate matters, 52.5 percent of carbonic oxide and 56.8 percent of hydrocarbon.

Statistics shows that there are about 12,800 yellow-label vehicles in Jiading, including 2,862 special transport vehicles.

So far, more than 2,100 vehicles have been eliminated.

Since April 1, yellow-label vehicles have been forbidden to drive on the S20 and G1501 highways.

The measures against yellow-label vehicles are welcomed by local people.

One resident who used to work in traffic authorities suggested that local traffic police could establish a blacklist for yellow-label vehicles because many of them are in the freight transport business without a valid license.

Local state-owned enterprises also support the measures after finding out more than 20 yellow-label vehicles registered under these companies.

All the vehicles will be eliminated by the end of this year.

In the future, local traffic authorities will strengthen their campaign against illegal second-hand vehicle transaction to prevent vehicles which have been eliminated from returning to the market, the officials said.
