Not just a cheap activity but a thrilling challenge
AT first, the essence of outdoor hiking was spending the least to see the most. However, most people who have taken part in outdoor hiking realize that it’s not simply a low-cost trip, but rather a thrilling challenge.
I have been a member of Jiading Outdoors for more than six months, and I have experienced a lot. I remember when we traveled to Wuyue Ancient Path, the road was slippery because of the heavy rain, but we always helped each other with smiling faces although they were stuck with mud and rain.
In summer, we traveled to Zhedong Grand Canyon and Nanxi River. When we walked across the river, the men helped the women to carry the bags, and some even carried the women on their backs. When we traveled to Longwang Mountain, Qingliang Peak and Daming Mountain, we were often bitten by leeches. When women were bit they might scream out of instinct, but none of them gave up moving forward.
On Daming Mountain, we had two of our mates who were nearly 60.
They carried their bags throughout the journey. I asked to carry the bags for them for several times, but they always said: “I’m OK, don’t worry.” Maybe this is the spirit of outdoor hiking.
Through all these journeys, we are no longer the rookies. Now we can walk the tougher paths, carry more bags and have more fans. Backpacking is a kind of sport closest to the nature, which also reminds us to pay more attention to protect the environment.
