New complex

A large commercial complex will be built in Jiading New City by a consortium of Taiwan's Shin Kong Group, IDG Capital Partners, Net Movie Culture Co and Jiabao Group. The four investors signed an agreement on December 8 in Jiading. The commercial complex will be the largest of its kind in Shanghai, featuring a multiplex cinema and high-end department stores.

Head office

Vancl, a popular online apparel retailer in China, signed an agreement with the Jiading Industrial Zone on December 6 to set up its East China headquarters and global research and development center in the zone. The facilities are expected to be completed and opened in August 2012. Vancl is expected to generate 200 million yuan (US$30 million) in taxes in 2013.

Factory opens

Delphi's new plant in Jiading Automobile City has gone into production. The factory complex cost 600 million yuan. As the second-largest manufacturer of automobile connector parts, Delphi boasts 23 percent of the domestic market.

Industry chain

Continental Group from Germany opened a new plant in the Jiading Industrial Zone, with registered capital of more than 30 million euros (US$39 million). Continental Automotive Systems (Shanghai) Co began operation on December 3, completing an industry chain that includes research and development, production and sales.

Festival begins

The Cao'an Shopping and Tourism Festival recently opened and will continue through Spring Festival holiday in early February. The festival includes foods, tea culture ceremonies and sales promotions.

Energy saver

Shanghai Flat Glass Co's 2.8 million yuan project to renovate its production line of natural gas kilns went into trial production recently. The high-technology line is expected to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide by 60 tons, conserve energy by 20 percent and save 4,400 tons of water each year.

Pilot status

Jiading High-tech Park has been included in the third group of intellectual property rights pilot projects by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration. Last year, the park generated revenue of more than 7 billion yuan, more than 65 percent of which was from high-tech products.
