Model museum well worth a visit for fans of trucks
CHINA Commercial Vehicle Model Museum, the largest of its kind in the world, is now open to the public with a collection of more than 1,300 models.
Located at 18 Dazhi Road of Malu Town, the 200-square-meter museum is in a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) style building at Jiayuanhai Art Center. In front of the gate of the building there is a 400-square-meter lotus pond.
In the first exhibition hall, truck models are placed in categories. Two brand-new box-type tractors attract the attention of visitors. Models of fire engines and military vehicles are placed on the left and right sides of the gate.
A museum employee surnamed Tan said the museum had collected more than 10 types of trucks, and models of each type are specified with different production times, brands, uses, origins and functions, mostly made from alloys. “The doors can be opened and you can see the engines and gearboxes clearly after lifting the truck heads,” Tan said.
More truck models are available in the second exhibition hall.
About 20 percent of the models come from overseas. The model of a truck branded “King” made in the United States, the most precious exhibit in the museum, is a must-see. The model, purchased at a Japanese second-hand market, can run like a real truck after a switch is turned on.
In the museum’s interaction area, visitors can learn how the tower crane, pile driver, concrete pump truck and concrete mixer cooperate to build high-rises. “These engineering vehicles are often seen. I learn more about construction through the interaction,” said Liu Xuewu, a visitor. Visitors can also operate fire engines by remote control to finish some basic tasks, such as spraying water on the target.
