Lots of love under the Jiading blue sky

A “Love Under The Blue Sky” fundraising event in Jiading drew a perfect conclusion to the 2016 series of charity events in Shanghai.

At Robinsons Galleria in Jiading Town, Han Min was one of the volunteers taking donations.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is 5 yuan (7 US cents) or 10 yuan on each occasion. I sincerely hope our people understand the meaning of the charity,” Han said.

Jiading launched its “Love Under The Blue Sky” fundraising on December 3. Enterprises and individuals made contributions through local communities.

A retired woman, surnamed Huang, chipped in 1,000 yuan at her neighborhood committee. Huang, who lives in the Zhouqiao community in Jiading Town, makes a donation every year.

At the Xinxiang community in Nanxiang Town, a resident surnamed Li and his family again took part in the annual fundraising event. Li and three of his family members suffer from chronic diseases but they play active roles in the event.

“It is a must that we do it,” Li said.

Most residents of Xinxiang are on tight budgets but more than half of them make regular contributions to charity.

Enterprises are major forces in the fundraising event.

Shanghai Nautilus General Equipment Manufacturing Co in Waigang Town donated 1 million yuan this year, up from their 800,000-yuan contribution last year.

“Giving back to society is an indispensable part of our culture,” said Zhang Jingge, the company’s general manager.

“Apart from making profits, philanthropy is also our duty,” Zhang added.

Employees of Shanghai Xinyingyuan (Group) Co take part in the fundraising event every year.

Workers at the Jiading branch of Agricultural Bank of China are pressed into service every year to count the money raised and transfer the total amount to the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

The “Love Under The Blue Sky” fundraising citywide this time collected a total of 19.3 million yuan.

People can log on the official website of Shanghai Charity Foundation to see how the money is used.
