Holiday time means fun for children

WITH the summer vacation approaching, Shanghai Poly Grand Theater is getting ready to open its doors to children from June to August.

With the first and second Poly Children’s Arts Festival well received, the theater has increased the number of programs this year to 27.

This year’s festival will composed of three series of programs covering children’s theater, concerts and a children’s chorus camp.

There are some visually impressive productions in store to thrill the audience.

“Shaun the Sheep” from the United Kingdom is sure to have audiences in fits of laughter. The original version of Shaun the Sheep was a typically British show with funny physical performances and lively music, and has been performed in several countries around the world.

This time, a brand new Chinese version is going to be staged at the theater.

The story is about the sheep Shaun and the dog Bitzer saving a tree from being cut down on the farm. The tree provides them with a place to escape from the sun and a place to play. However, the farmer wants to cut it down to make firewood to keep his house warm.

Shaun, Bitzer and the other sheep set out to save the tree from the farmer and his fire.

Shanghai Poly Children’s Chorus will perform world famous songs including the works from domestic and overseas.

The chorus was organized by Shanghai Poly Theater and Shanghai Philharmonic Association, aiming to build the best children’s chorus. Launched in 2015, the chorus now has more than 100 members. They gave four performances in the first two months and have performed with a number of world famous choruses, including the Vienna Boys’ Choir and Shanghai Philharmonic Youth Chorus. Last year, the chorus won a prize at the China International Chorus Festival in Beijing.

The Poly Chorus Summer Camp will kick off in July, and is open to all children. Those selected will perform on stage on July 23 after a four-day training session.
